More than 1.3 Lakh Punekars were unsuccessful in getting a permanent driver’s license in 2023.

As per further data & information shared by Sanjeev Bhor, Deputy Commissioner, Pune RTO, out of the 2,63,595 learning licenses (LL) issued this year, only 1,29,693 have successfully obtained permanent driving licenses for two-wheelers, four-wheelers or both. 1,33,902 people haven’t got a permanent driving license.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Sanjeev Bhor, Deputy Commissioner, Pune RTO, said “When a person gets a learning license, the duration for applying & getting a permanent driving license is within 1 month to 6 months from the time of getting learning license, failing which he/she has to get the learning license again. Several times, what happens is the learning license holders do not apply for a permanent driving license within the given time period. So, for example, if one lakh people get a learning license, not all get a permanent license. The reasons could be any such as not showing importance towards getting a permanent driving license by either showing laziness etc. Hence, the period of getting a permanent license expires. That’s why there is a difference between the number of learning license holders & permanent license holders.”

The Phugewadi RTO office on Alandi Road is the testing location for applicants for two-wheeler permanent licenses, whereas the IDTR test track near Bhosari Phata Chowk is the testing location for applicants for four-wheeler permanent licenses.

Established in March 2015, the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT) is responsible for overseeing the IDTR track. Here, you can test your driving skills on three distinct shape tracks: an ‘8’-shaped track for turning, an H-shaped stretch for reverse driving, and a gradient track to see if you can handle a car on an incline or a slope.
