Over 200 illegal alcohol bottles seized by state excise department

Pune: The Maharashtra State Excise Department has seized 243 illegal alcohol bottles in Ambegaon taluka.

As per further information shared by Yuvraj Shinde, Deputy Superintendent, State Excise Department, under the guidance of Dr Vijay Suryavanshi, Commissioner, State Excise, State of Maharashtra, Mumbai, Sunil Chavan, Director, State Excise, State of Maharashtra, Mumbai, Mohan Varde, Divisional Deputy Commissioner of Pune Division, C B Rajput, Superintendent of State Excise, Pune Division as well as Yuvraj Shinde Deputy Superintendent, S R Patil, Deputy Superintendent and Santosh Jagdale, Deputy Superintendent, on September 27, 2023, based on a reliable secret information received from the office of the Inspector, State Excise, Narayangaon Division, while conducting surveillance and inspecting the suspect vehicle in the limits of Mauje Pondewadi village at Ambegaon taluka, on Pune-Pondewadi-Pargaon road, four wheeler, vehicle no MH 14 KW 8410 Tata Tiago, was suspected and it was found full of white sacks.

When the vehicle was searched, foreign liquor manufactured in Goa state and prohibited for sale in Maharashtra state was found in the vehicle. When it was examined, 81 sealed bottles of 3 different alcohol brands (total 243 bottles) were found. These alcohol bottles are worth a total of Rs 1,62,000.

The foreign liquor was manufactured in Goa. Also, the mobile phone of the car driver was seized. Overall, goods of worth Rs 10,04,000 have been seized.

Also, investigation revealed that the said stock of liquor was transported to Pune for the purpose of sale. The accused named Satish Ranpise and other persons have been charged under Section 65 (a), 65 (e), 80, 81 (1), 83, 90 & 103 of the Maharashtra Liquor Prohibition Act, 1949.

After registering the case, the accused Ranpise was arrested and the above items were taken into custody. When presented before court, the court sent the accused to police custody for 4 days.
