Pune: Several residents of Wakad are fed up with the increasing traffic problems in & around riverside arwa near highway leading to Baner side.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Dr Devendra Bhosale, Chairman of Bella Vista Empress, Wakad said, “The traffic congestion issue is a very long-standing one. What happens when you commute from the bridge of the Nadi Patra, there is also a secondary bridge constructed near it which is being used as a service road. The vehicular movement is very high on this road and U-turn is also not allowed. Hence, going towards Baner takes me around 45 minutes. The situation is similar to Chandani Chowk flyover where there is heavy traffic every day.”

Sagar Dhole, another resident of Bella Vista Empress, Wakad said, “The traffic situation has become pathetic. Traffic from Pimple Saudagar, Aundh, Vishrantwadi and other nearby areas commute on that route. It takes a lot of time for me to reach my workplace. There are 2 routes to enter PCMC areas from PMC areas, one is Nashik Phata & other is this route. Huge buses make it even worse to commute on this route.”

Rajat Gupta, another resident of Bella Vista Empress, Wakad said, “Traffic congestion is getting worse with each passing day on the route from Wakad to Baner. Whenever you travel on that route, at the cut point towards Baner side, due to entire traffic coming from Hinjewadi side, it becomes a deadlock where lots of traffic gathers from all sides. I travel from Wakad to Baner every day. It takes me around 45 to 50 minutes to travel a distance of only 5 km which wastes my time. People drive from the wrong side of the road as well which has become very common. This situation is at any time of the day whether it is morning time or evening time etc.”

Dattatray Deshmukh, Chairman, Pimpri Chinchwad Housing Societies Federation said, “I have already communicated this same problem to the Commissioner as well for which they said that they will hold a meeting after the Ganesh festival is over.”

Shivaji Pawar, DCP, Hinjewadi Traffic Police said, “We will go to the location and after detailed inspection, we will think about probable solutions to eliminate the congestion once and for all.”
