Pune: The state is expected to experience continued rainfall for the next two days with thunderstorms and lightning as predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in most areas.

The Ganesh Immersion processions in Mumbai and Pune will also be affected by the rain.

According to Dr Anupam Kashyapi, Weather Forecasting Division, IMD, there is a cyclonic circulation over North Karnataka, South Maharashtra, and West Telangana. A low-pressure area has formed between Chhattisgarh and South Karnataka, which may result in heavy rainfall in the state for the next two to three days. During the Ganesh Visarjan procession in Pune light to moderate rain is expected. The IMD has also predicted thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by a thunderstorm.

The IMD has recommended checking impact-based advisories. The expected effects of this weather include the localized flooding of roads, inundation of low-lying areas, and closure of subways mainly in urban areas.

There may also be occasional reduction in visibility due to heavy rain, waterlogged roads disrupting traffic in major cities and increasing travel time, minor damage to unpaved roads, potential damage to vulnerable structures, localized landslides/mudslides, and floods that may cause damage to horticulture and standing crops in some areas.

This may also cause river flooding in some river basins.

As per the information received, to mitigate the impact of this weather, it is suggested to check traffic jams on your route before leaving for your destination, obey any traffic instructions issued in this regard, avoid going in areas that frequently experience water logging problems, and avoid living in unsafe structures.
