In a significant development, as many as 43,925 commercial establishments in Pimpri Chinchwad city have been identified as presenting inadequate information regarding fire safety measures.

In response to this alarming revelation, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has instructed these establishments to refill the required information, aiming to reinforce and ensure strict compliance with fire safety regulations.

The Fire department has sent text messages to the owners and occupiers of these 43,925 establishments, appealing for cooperation in refilling the necessary fire safety information.

Shekhar Singh, PCMC Commissioner, emphasizing the critical importance of this initiative, said, “Fire safety is a non-negotiable aspect of urban living. The safety of our citizens is our topmost priority. We cannot afford to overlook lapses in fire prevention measures. The text messages are nothing but a reminder to ensure that all establishments adhere to the necessary safety standards.”

This move follows an extensive fire prevention survey being conducted by women from authorized self-help groups, appointed by the Mahila Arthik Vikas Mahamandal (MAVIM), Pune. The survey aims to assess the area’s fire safety infrastructure of commercial buildings.

Pradeep Jambhale-Patil, PCMC Additional Commissioner, on the non-compliance of fire safety information, said, “The sheer number of establishments with inadequate fire safety information is a cause for concern. We are committed to creating a safer environment for everyone, and this reminder is a necessary step to rectify the existing gaps in fire safety measures.”

The text messages address the shortcomings identified during the survey, including insufficient information on fire safety measures, missing licenses, and incomplete documentation. Establishments are urged to take immediate action to rectify these deficiencies to ensure the safety of both occupants and property.

PCMC calls for full cooperation from all commercial establishment owners and occupiers in the Pimpri Chinchwad area. Failure to comply with the necessary information may lead to further regulatory actions.
