In West Maharashtra, the electricity provider, Mahavitaran, has intensified its efforts to disconnect power supply to defaulters owing to overdue electricity bills. According to recent data, over 44,972 connections have been cut off in the region due to non-payment of bills. Mahavitaran has made it clear that reconnection of power supply will only be initiated upon payment of outstanding amounts along with reconnection fees and GST as per regulations.

The situation highlights a staggering Rs 254 crore 20 lakh outstanding balance from 14 lakh 16 thousand 300 consumers in Western Maharashtra, majorly comprising domestic, commercial, and industrial sectors. District-wise, Pune leads with Rs 165 crore 14 lakh owed by 7,30,850 consumers, followed by Satara with Rs 15 crore 34 lakh, Solapur with Rs 31 crore 94 lakh, Kolhapur with Rs 23 crores 92 lakhs, and Sangli with Rs 17 crores 85 lakhs in arrears.

Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission has established reconnection fees ranging from Rs 210 to Rs 3150, with an additional 18% GST. Ankush Nale, the Pune Regional Director, emphasized that power restoration will only occur post payment of dues and reconnection fees in compliance with the rules.

The disconnection of electricity supply affects 44 thousand 972 consumers in Western Maharashtra, with Pune district bearing the brunt at 29 thousand 440, followed by Sataradistrict, Solapur district, Kolhapur district, and Sangli district. Mahavitaran continues to enforce disconnections regardless of the outstanding amount, adhering strictly to regulations.

To mitigate such actions and avoid inconvenience, consumers are urged to settle their outstanding bills promptly. Mahavitaran provides online payment options through their website www.mahadiscom.in and mobile app, along with RTGS or NEFT facilities for bills exceeding Rs 5000.
