Pune, May 1, 2026: Following reports of fish deaths due to polluted water at Pashan Lake, Mayor Manjusha Deepak Nagpure conducted an on-site inspection of the lake area on Friday.

The civic administration has launched an intensive clean-up drive to remove excessive water hyacinth choking the lake. Heavy machinery, including spider machines, poclain excavators, and JCBs, are being deployed to clear the vegetation on a war footing.

During the visit, officials from the environment department, including Deputy Commissioner Kishori Shinde, Environment Officer Ganesh Sonune, and Executive Engineer Rajesh Kharat, along with contractor Rajesh Thakurdessai, were present.

The mayor emphasised that merely removing water hyacinth will not solve the issue. She stressed the need for proper treatment of water entering the lake. In this regard, a detailed inspection of the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), which releases treated water into the lake, was also carried out.

Instructions have been issued to concerned officials to immediately implement necessary improvements in the treatment process and expedite pending work to prevent further ecological damage.
