Passenger Arrested at Delhi Airport After Repeatedly Rejecting Offers from Air Hostess on Air India Flight
Passenger arrested at Delhi airport after rejecting multiple offers from a flight attendant on Air India flight AI 99 from Jeddah.
In a recent incident aboard an Air India flight AI 99 from Jeddah to Delhi, a passenger was arrested. Suspicion arose after he repeatedly refused offers from a flight attendant. The incident began when the flight attendant first offered the passenger drinking water, which he declined. Subsequently, she continued to offer various refreshments, but each offer was met with rejection.
Throughout the flight, which lasted approximately 5.5 hours, the passenger refused all offers of food and drink. This behavior raised suspicions for the flight attendant. She alerted the flight captain, who relayed the information to security agencies via Air Traffic Control. Upon receiving the alert, a Customs Preventive team was prepared to take action upon landing.
After the plane landed in Delhi, the passenger was closely monitored and stopped. He had attempted to cross the Green Customs Clearance Channel. Upon interrogation, the passenger admitted to smuggling gold paste hidden in his rectum. He proceeded to remove four egg-sized capsules, containing the gold paste, from his rectum.
According to the Deputy Commissioner (Customs), approximately 1096.76 grams of gold were seized from the capsules, valued at around INR 69,16,169. The passenger was arrested under various sections of the Customs Act.
It’s noteworthy that flight crews are instructed to monitor passengers who refuse to eat or drink during long flights. It is often suspected that such passengers may be concealing contraband for smuggling purposes.
