Passengers aboard IndiGo flight 6E17 from Mumbai to Istanbul found themselves stranded at Mumbai airport for over 40 hours due to the flight’s prolonged delay and eventual cancellation. Initially scheduled for a 6:40 AM departure on March 7, the flight was delayed multiple times before being officially canceled, attributed to technical issues with the aircraft.

Despite claims by IndiGo that they followed Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) guidelines, passengers alleged inadequate communication, lack of proper accommodation, and refreshments during the extended delay.

One of the stranded passengers, recounted the series of delays and expressed dissatisfaction with the airline’s handling of the situation. IndiGo informed passengers about an alternative flight at 5:30 PM on March 8, but until 4 PM, there was no clarity on boarding passes. The stranded passengers, including senior citizens and children, felt neglected and criticized the airline’s communication delay.

Several passengers shared their experiences, expressing frustration over missed appointments, canceled hotel bookings, and uncertainty about connecting flights. The airline’s handling of the situation drew criticism, with calls for stringent action against IndiGo for causing mismanagement and leaving passengers stranded.

In an official statement on March 8, IndiGo acknowledged the delay was due to a technical issue with the incoming aircraft from Istanbul. The airline assured passengers that their comfort was a top priority, offering alternate options, rescheduling, and refunds in line with norms. IndiGo apologized for the inconvenience caused by the unforeseen delay.

Despite the airline’s apology and explanation, passengers remained dissatisfied, emphasizing the need for better communication, accommodation, and adherence to passenger rights.

Aviation experts weighed in on the situation, highlighting the challenges passengers face in seeking redressal and the need for stronger regulatory enforcement to protect passenger interests. The incident underscores the complexities and frustrations passengers encounter when flights face extended delays and cancellations.
