PCMC aims for 50% three-wheelers to be electric in Pimpri Chinchwad

Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has set an ambitious target of having at least 50%  three-wheelers run on electric power. The Municipal Corporation will extend full cooperation to auto owners to make the transition from CNG to electric auto rickshaws as easy and economical as possible.

Shekhar Singh, PCMC Municipal commissioner has also said that the autorickshaw driver will be given financial assistance of up to 30 thousand rupees for purchasing an e-rickshaw.

At the initiative of Pimpri-Chinchwad EV Cell, a meeting was held to resolve the issues facing the adoption of electric auto rickshaws. Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate, Ulhas Jagtap, Joint City Engineer Sanjay Kulkarni, Deputy Regional Transport Officer Atul Ade, and Rickshaw Association officials were present on the occasion.

Singh further said that to solve the problems and queries of the rickshaw drivers, workshops will be organized from time to time on behalf of the Municipal Corporation.

The driver will be given financial assistance of up to 30 thousand rupees for taking an e-rickshaw. Rickshaw associations will be made aware of the technical, environmental and economic implications of switching to electric auto rickshaws as compared to CNG autos.

The economic viability of electric auto rickshaws and future charging infrastructure for electric autos to charge vehicles will also be explained to them. Those interested in purchasing electric auto rickshaws have been informed about the financing provided by banks and financial institutions.
