Pune: Setting a new record, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has collected a whopping amount of Rs 200 crores in property tax in only the first two months of the fiscal year 2023-24.

Speaking about the achievement, Nilesh Deshmukh, Assistant Tax Commissioner, PCMC, said, “Since the last 1.5 years, a lot of defaulters have not paid their property taxes. So, in order to recover the dues, we have confiscated their properties.” He added that extensive usage of technology like smartphones, digital services, and online payment, has made it easy to pay tax on time.

Speaking about the plans for the remaining year, Deshmukh said, “We will take more vigorous steps to collect property tax, especially from the defaulters. We will also involve officials from the women’s division. We are hopeful that such steps will help us collect property taxes in time and also recover the dues.”

As per the data retrieved from the PCMC’s tax department, there are a total of 6,02,614 property tax holders. In the first 2 months of the current fiscal year, 1,60,300 property holders have already paid their taxes.

The PCMC accepts all payment methods like cash, cheque, demand draft, cards, IMPS, NEFT, RTGS, online payment etc. They also give benefits to people who pay their property tax on time like:

  • 5% discount who pay by cash at PCMC’s tax office cash counter
  • 10% discount who pay online
  • 30% discount for women taxpayers
  • 50% discount for handicapped taxpayers

For the rest of the year, the PCMC plans to collect property tax worth Rs 1000 crores. The PCMC has urged all the property tax holders to pay their property tax on time.
