Pimpri, September 4, 2024: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and Police Commissionerate have appealed to all Ganesh Mandals and citizens to cooperate with the administration to ensure that this year’s Ganesh Festival is celebrated in an environmentally friendly and peaceful manner.

Authorities have emphasized that Ganesh Mandals should ensure that their activities do not obstruct traffic. There is a renewed focus on celebrating an eco-friendly festival, as seen in previous years. The administration has urged the installation of Ganesh idols made from eco-friendly materials like clay, metal, wood, stone, or paper pulp. Adherence to government and police guidelines for processions during the festival is mandatory. Mandals are also requested to prioritize setting up idols and pandals in spaces that do not disrupt traffic.

Additionally, Mandals are advised to minimize the use of loudspeakers and install CCTV cameras in areas where Ganesh idols are placed. Proper crowd management and adherence to legal sound limits for loudspeakers and lighting are required. Digital or audiovisual mediums should be used for public viewing of Ganesh idols. Efforts should be made to provide online or cable network access to Ganesh idol viewing to reduce physical crowds. Mandals are reminded to avoid using loudspeakers near hospitals, educational institutions, courts, and medical facilities within a 100-meter radius, as per Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000.

Plastic usage is strictly prohibited during the festival, with penalties for non-compliance. Mandals must also ensure clear access for emergency vehicles, including ambulances and rickshaws. Unauthorized vendors are not permitted to operate near public mandals, and minimal shops selling flowers, coconuts, sweets, and offerings should be allowed.

If any suspicious persons or objects, such as suitcases, radios, large clocks, tiffin boxes, or bicycles, are found, the public is urged to immediately contact the police. Special attention should be given to the security of Ganesh idols adorned with valuable jewelry, with 24-hour security provided by Mandal volunteers or private guards.

For Ganesh idol immersion, the administration encourages households to immerse idols at home or prioritize idol donation. Mandals are advised to perform immersion rituals at designated artificial ponds. On immersion days (1.5, 5, 7, 9, and 10 days), the Municipal Corporation will provide decorated vehicles for idol and waste collection. Each ward in the city will have idol collection centers and vehicles to transport idols for immersion. Two conveyor belts will be available at each immersion site, with additional belts provided if needed. All offerings should be placed in the designated vehicles, and the collected idols will be immersed in a respectful and sacred manner.
