Pimpri-Chinchwad Reports Guillain-Barre Syndrome Cases, Corporation Forms 16 Surveillance TeamsÂ
Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) is a condition where the immune system attacks the nervous system, potentially causing severe symptoms. It can affect people of all age groups, though severe cases are rare. Common symptoms include:
- Weakness in hands and feet
- Tingling sensations
- Difficulty swallowing or speaking
- Shortness of breath
Current Case Report in Pimpri-Chinchwad
As of now, the suspected GBS cases reported in various hospitals are:
- Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital: 4 cases (1 discharged)
- Sainath Hospital, Moshi: 3 cases (2 discharged)
- Max Neuro Hospital: 2 cases (1 discharged)
- Gunjkar Hospital: 1 case (0 discharged)
- Dr. D.Y. Patil Hospital: 1 case (1 discharged)
- Surya Hospital: 1 case (1 discharged)
Action Taken
To monitor the affected areas, 16 health teams have been formed under 8 hospital zones. These teams, consisting of ANMs, ASHA workers, and health employees, are conducting surveys and collecting water samples if needed.

Citizens are urged not to panic, as GBS is not a new condition and has been previously reported in small numbers. If symptoms appear, seek immediate medical attention at the nearest municipal hospital.
