Pimpri: Residents of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) have written a letter to Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Commissioner complaining about the implementation of user charges in the current year’s tax collection. The charges, which are set to be introduced with retrospective effect dating back to 2019, are included in the new property taxes.

Cooperative housing societies in the city have voiced their opposition to the new charges, stating that it is unfair and wrong to charge and collect user value in this manner. They are demanding that the charges be cancelled immediately and that the property tax assessment be issued in the old way.

“If our demands are not met, we will refuse to pay the property tax and hold a violent agitation in protest,” the residents warned in a statement. This move has the potential to cause a significant disruption in the city and could lead to a standoff between the residents and the municipal corporation.

Sanjeevan Sangle, the Chairman of Chikhali-Moshi Pimpri Chinchwad Cooperative Housing Societies’ Federation, criticized the municipal corporation for taking arbitrary decisions without consulting political parties, social organizations, or housing federation representatives. He added, “The commissioners should immediately reverse these decisions.”

PCMC has charged the fees for waste segregation in the property tax bills, but the decision to collect user charges retrospectively has angered many residents. The dispute has raised concerns about the effectiveness of the municipality’s decision-making process and its ability to manage the city’s finances fairly.
