Pune, April 17, 2026: In a major development for Pimpri-Chinchwad, the proposed Nigdi to Chakan Metro corridor has been included in MahaMetro’s revised Detailed Project Report (DPR), offering a significant boost to connectivity and urban mobility in the region.

As per the new plan, the metro route will pass through Vallabhnagar, Telco Road, Landewadi, and Bhosari Gaonthan before extending up to Chakan. This alignment is expected to directly connect key industrial zones, including Bhosari MIDC and the Chakan industrial belt, improving access for both workers and businesses.

The project also focuses on strengthening last-mile connectivity, with plans to provide parking facilities at metro stations and improve commuter access. Authorities have indicated that certain infrastructure changes, including the possible demolition of a bridge in Bhosari, may be required to facilitate the project—decisions being described as challenging but necessary for long-term development.

Passenger projections suggest strong future demand, with an estimated daily ridership of 3.22 lakh commuters by 2032, expected to rise to 7.8 lakh by 2062. The metro corridor is seen as a crucial step toward easing traffic congestion and supporting the region’s rapid urban and industrial growth.

The broader metro expansion plan for Pimpri-Chinchwad is aligned with the vision of enhancing public transport and promoting sustainable urban development. The initiative has been conceptualised under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and guided at the state level by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Key highlights of the project include a total length of 45.2 km, an increase in the number of stations from 31 to 34, an estimated cost of ₹12,937 crore, and a projected daily carrying capacity of over 3.3 lakh passengers. The project is targeted for completion within five years.
