Pune, March 9, 2026: The Traffic Police under the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate have intensified their crackdown against drunk driving and traffic rule violations through a special enforcement drive across the city. The initiative aims to enhance road safety and discourage motorists from engaging in reckless behaviour that endangers public safety.
During the operation, traffic police officials inspected nearly 1,100 vehicles at multiple checkpoints across key locations in Pimpri Chinchwad. Authorities identified 221 motorists violating traffic regulations, including cases of driving under the influence of alcohol and other serious infractions. As part of the action taken, the department imposed fines amounting to ₹10.98 lakh on the offenders.
Officials stated that the campaign is part of a continued effort to curb dangerous driving practices and ensure stricter compliance with road safety norms.
In a significant development reinforcing the administration’s zero-tolerance approach towards drunk driving, the Motor Vehicles Court delivered a strict judgment in one such case. The court sentenced an offender to 15 days of imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000, sending a clear warning that reckless driving and alcohol-related offences will face serious legal consequences.
Police officials have urged citizens to follow traffic rules and avoid driving under the influence to ensure safer roads for everyone.
