Pune: The absence of towing vehicles has put the Pimpri Chinchwad traffic police in a fix as it has become impossible to tow vehicles parked in the no parking zone.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Satish Nandurkar, Senior Police Inspector, Pimpri Chinchwad Traffic Division said, “We have sent several requests to the PCMC to provide a sufficient number of towing vehicles to tow the illegally parked vehicles in Pimpri & Chinchwad. The absence of it has resulted in a major increase in traffic concerns throughout the city. Towing vehicles should be made available as quickly as possible as it will help solve traffic congestion in the area.”

As per information from Nandurkar, earlier, there were 7 towing vehicles for traffic police in Pimpri Chinchwad on a contract basis. However, due to the expiry of the contract & non-renewal of it till now, there are no towing vehicles.

With considerable traffic and indiscipline, various areas like Hinjewadi etc require towing vehicles to act against vehicles parked illegally causing traffic congestion. The metro construction work has exacerbated the issue of traffic congestion.

Towing vehicles helped alleviate traffic congestion on important highways in Pimpri-Saudagar, Rahatani, Kokane Chowk, Pimpale Nilakh, Dapodi, Nigdi & many more in addition to Hinjewadi.
