Pune, July 8 – In a crackdown on traffic violations affecting public transport, the Nigdi Traffic Police have taken strict action against unauthorized parking and private vehicles encroaching on the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) lanes across Pimpri-Chinchwad city.

The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd. (PMPML) had earlier requested the Nigdi Traffic Police to curb unauthorized private passenger transport on BRTS routes and prevent haphazard parking near main bus terminals, which was obstructing PMPML bus operations and creating traffic congestion. These issues also posed a risk of serious accidents and endangered passenger safety.

Responding to the request, the Nigdi Traffic Division conducted extensive drives and reported:

  • Between January 2025 and July 2025, action was taken in 1,762 cases of violations.
  • A total fine of ₹12,94,000 was collected from offending vehicle owners.
  • Patrolling officers have been deployed to monitor private vehicles using BRTS lanes, and strict enforcement continues.

PMPML has appealed to all motorists to avoid driving private vehicles on BRTS lanes, emphasizing that such actions increase the risk of accidents and can lead to serious injuries or fatalities. The BRTS corridors are exclusively reserved for PMPML buses to ensure smoother and safer public transport operations.
