Pimpri : Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Inaugurates Pimpri Chinchwad Planetarium Project

Pune, May 15th: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation‘s special planetarium project, located in the Science Park area of Chinchwad, was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, in the presence of Guardian Minister Chandrakantada Patil.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of MP Srirang Barane, MLAs Mahesh Landge, Uma Khapare, Anna Bansode, Ashwini Jagtap, former Mayor Mai Dhore, Commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Shekhar Singh, and Science Park Director Praveen Tupe.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited and inspected the planetarium project during the event. He expressed his belief that the planetarium, through its astronomy presentations, would enhance citizens’ understanding of our solar system. 

The idea of “seeing the stars during the day” has become a reality with the planetarium, offering an hour of immersion in understanding the cosmos. He expressed confidence that the planetarium would positively contribute to the knowledge and interest in science among children and youth.

Director Tupe provided detailed information about the planetarium project during the ceremony.

Key Features of the Planetarium Project:

The state-of-the-art planetarium incorporates a hybrid projection method that combines optomechanical and digital techniques. Spanning an area of 2,410 square meters, the planetarium project has been developed under the guidance of a committee that includes renowned astronomer Dr. Jayant Narlikar. The planetarium has a diameter of 15.7 meters and can accommodate 122 visitors. It offers 17 specially curated astronomy programs, created in collaboration with Goto Company from Fit Japan. Additionally, there is a separate auditorium with 100 seats.
