Pimpri News : PCMC officers excel in “Freedom to Walk – Cycle – Run” campaign

Pimpri Chinchwad: In a commendable achievement, Pimpri Chinchwad city has secured top positions in the “Freedom to Walk – Cycle – Run” campaign, jointly implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India and Smart City. The city’s officers were felicitated for their success in the first phase of the campaign at a ceremony held in the main administrative building of Pimpri Municipal Corporation.

The campaign, which encouraged Smart City officers across the country to walk, cycle, or run for 45 days, saw the participation of 10 city leaders from Pimpri Chinchwad. At the end of the activity, the city secured the first position in cycling and running and the 10th position in walking across the country.

In addition, at the individual level, Junior Engineer Amit Dixit secured the first rank in the country in cycling, and Computer Operator Anant Chutke secured the fourth rank. Junior Engineer Prasad Deshmukh secured the second rank in running, while Swajil Shirke secured the fifth rank.

Expressing their delight at the recognition, the awardees shared their experience of the campaign. Executive City Engineer Pramod Ombhase, who secured the award for walking, said that he used to walk to the office from his house or sometimes go walking. And if he had used a vehicle to travel, he took some time from his schedule to walk, which was recorded daily in an application.

PCMC Makarand Nikam City Engineer (civil), who also received the award for walking, encouraged people to walk and highlighted the numerous benefits of walking.
