Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has filed a complaint of digging a footpath illegally in the Morwadi area against an unidentified private firm at Pimpri Police Station.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Makarand Nikam, PCMC City Engineer (Civil) said, “We got to know about this illegal footpath digging last week. However, we do not know the name of the private firm that is behind this yet. After inspecting the site, we came to know that a private firm had dug up the footpath without taking permission from the PCMC in Morwadi. After digging, it was not covered. Hence, the gap between the footpath & the road has increased. It is also causing inconvenience in the smooth flow of traffic. Hence, we filed a complaint at Pimpri Police Station.”

As per information shared by Shekhar Singh, PCMC Municipal Commissioner, PCMC had imposed a ban on digging the footpath. Still, a footpath was illegally dug up between Morwadi Chowk and Samrat Chowk for laying some cable. However, during monsoon times, road digging work can cause water logging, traffic jams and much more. It can also endanger the life of a pedestrian.
