Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Building Development Department demolished six unauthorized buildings in Bibwewadi area on 23rd August. Due to this, around twenty-two thousand square feet of unauthorized constructions were razed to the ground.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Ramesh Kakade, Executive Engineer, PMC Building Development Department, said “Despite giving notices to the concerned people from time to time, they ignored and continued the constructions. Hence, the PMC has taken strict action by demolishing 6 buildings in one day (23rd August). This is applicable for the entire city where continuous surveys of the PMC are going on about identifying unauthorized/illegal constructions & appropriate action will be taken against them.”

As per information, in the morning of 23rd August, huge cranes and giant cutters of the Pune Municipal Corporation entered Bibwewadi.

They started action on 6 four-storied buildings one by one in survey numbers 629 and 636 in Papal Vasti of Bibvewadi & demolished 6 illegal constructions. People started strongly opposing this. Still, the municipal authorities continued the action.

Shrinath Bhimale, Ex Corporator, Bibwewadi Ward, opposed the move “Why action was not taken when the construction was going on or when the construction started in the first place? People who have come to live here have to suffer unnecessarily due to this. If these constructions were unauthorized/illegal, nothing should have been built here in the first place. Action should not have been taken when people came to live in these buildings.”
