PMC demolishes unauthorized structures spread over 16.5k sq ft, eateries on Bhandarkar Road face action too

Pune: On Thursday, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials destroyed unauthorized extensions of food joints that had taken up 16,500 square feet of space in 2 areas of Pune i.e. Bhandarkar Road and Kalyani Nagar, Vadgaon Sheri.

As per information shared by Sunil Kadam, a senior PMC building department official, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), action was taken against Hotel Hippie at Heart located on Bhandarkar Road. About 2500 square feet of unauthorized construction was cleared.

Similarly, the PMC has taken action on unauthorized construction at a rooftop restaurant & club called Elrow in Kalyani Nagar in which approximately 14,000 sq ft of unauthorized construction was demolished.

A notice was issued to Elrow restaurant on 2/8/2022 by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) as per Section 53 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act 1966 as it was building a shed on its rooftop area without authorization. But, as no response was received from Elrow, action was taken where around 14,000 square feet of unauthorized rooftop construction was demolished for which 6 gas cutters along with other equipment were used & 12 PMC workers took this action. 8 Maharashtra security force personnel along with police personnel were deployed at the site.

Action has been taken twice before at this place by the PMC and the proceedings of filing a case under Section 43 of the MRTP Act 1966 are going on.

A total of 16,500 square feet of unauthorized construction was razed by the PMC.
