The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Fire Brigade rescued a 9-year-old girl from fire in a residential society Nancy Lake Homes opposite Bharati Vidyapeeth in Katraj.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Pradeep Khedekar, Fire Officer, PMC Control Room, said “On 14th October midnight, a huge fire was set in a flat in a society opposite Bharati Vidyapeeth area. A family of 5 people was living in it. When the fire was lit inside the flat, 4 adults came out safely. However, a small girl was trapped in the fire inside the flat. The girl went near the window of the bedroom gallery. It was very smart on her part to go & stand near a spot from where air was coming. The flat was entirely burnt by the fire. Our fire-fighting team was there on the spot & trying to douse the fire. But they needed more help. Hence, with more of our fire-fighting vehicles & personnel, we went to the spot. By setting up a ladder high enough to reach the bedroom gallery of the flat near which the girl was standing, we immediately rescued her safely. After that, the fire was brought under control & cooling was done. Nearby people praised us a lot.”

As per further information, on reaching the spot, on seeing that there was a massive fire in the 1560 sq.ft flat on the second floor of the 11-storey building, the soldiers started water from all sides and at the same time, while checking if anyone was trapped in the house, a little girl was caught near the iron grill in the window as she screamed for rescue. At the same time, the jawans immediately started efforts to save the girl. At the same time, some jawans started efforts to rescue the girl from the terrace of the neighbouring flat by placing a ladder near the window using two BA sets as well as hydraulic cutters, cutters, ropes.

In just five to ten minutes, the efforts of the jawans succeeded and the girl trapped in the fire was safely rescued. Also, the said fire was brought under control in twenty minutes. The house suffered major damage and it is believed that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. No injuries or fatalities.
