Pune News: Traffic police take action against bikers using modified silencers

Pune : On Thursday, the Pune traffic branch took action against 11 individuals who were found riding bullet motorcycles with modified silencers in the vicinity of educational institutions in Wagholi.

Before this operation, Vijay Magar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic), expressed his concern over the continuous modifications made by these riders, resulting in loud noises emanating from their motorcycles and disrupting the peace of the nearby residents.

According to the information received, the traffic branch has received numerous complaints from residents and has adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards noise pollution. More operations are being planned, and strict action will be taken against the offenders.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Vishvajeet Kaingade, Senior Police Inspector, Lonikand Police Station, added that the bikers had made alterations to their silencers, causing disturbances in the area. The police have seized 50-60 silencers from people who are seen using bikes with modified silencers. These individuals receive minor punishments under the Motor Vehicle Act, but the police are taking strict action against them. The seized silencers will be taken and destroyed in public space by a bulldozer.

It is important to note that modified or aftermarket silencers can have a range of effects and potential problems, such as increased noise levels, causing turbulence and reduced engine efficiency, and increased emissions.
