PMC Makes Preparations to Welcome Palkhis in Wanowrie and Hadapsar

Pune Pulse – June 13, 2023

In anticipation of the Palkhi procession of Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, which will pass through Hadapsar to Dive Ghat, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken extensive safety measures and provided various facilities for all the Warkaris.

Prasad Katkar, Assistant Commissioner of Hadapsar Mundhwa Ward Office, PMC, stated, “On June 14, the Palkhis of Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj will pass through Hadapsar to Dive Ghat. Therefore, the Hadapsar Mundhwa ward office has undertaken all necessary measures, including road refurbishment, coloring, and providing proper accommodation for the Warkaris and the Palkhis.”

The PMC has made the following arrangements:

  • Refurbishment of Visawa Otaa at Hadapsar Gadital, Uruli Devachi, Saswad Road, and Manjari Farm
  • Medical services available from 9 am to 5 pm at Late Annasaheb Magar, Late Sakaharam Kodre, Late Rohan Kale, and Late Dashrath Bhangire Hospitals for Warkaris
  • 24-hour availability of 859 volunteers to ensure cleanliness along the Palkhi route
  • 20 to 25 waste management vehicles
  • Provision of 229 mobile toilets
  • Availability of water tankers for adequate water supply
  • A large stage as a resting place for both Palkhis near Utkarsh Nagar Society at Hadapsar Gadital
  • Provision of electricity, lighting, accommodation, food, and clean water for Warkaris
  • Safety and security measures include:
  • Deployment of sufficient CCTVs and police officers
  • Strong barricades to block the roads

Chetan Tupe, MLA of the Nationalist Congress Party, mentioned, “For the past two months, the PMC, in collaboration with Dehu and Alandi Sansthan, has been diligently preparing for the arrival of the Palkhis and Warkaris. The PMC will ensure all necessary facilities and precautions are taken for the Warkaris’ return stay. While Warkaris do not stay in Hadapsar during their journey to Pandharpur, we will make sure that adequate facilities are provided for their peaceful return journey.”
