PMC holds waste management awareness and collection campaign in Bavdhan

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started plastic & e-waste public awareness & collection campaign in Kothrud & Bavdhan areas through the Kothrud Bavdhan Ward Office from 10th December (Sunday). 

The first event was organized in Ryan International Acedemy, Bavdhan in association with Pune Municipal Corporation, Cummins India Foundation, Janvani Sanstha, Ryan International Academy Bavdhan.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Ram Sonawane, Senior Health Inspector, PMC Kothrud-Bavdhan Ward Office, said “The use of plastic & e-waste must be reduced by people. To properly dispose off the plastic & e-waste generated in Kothrud & Bavdhan, this campaign has begun in both the areas from the PMC. We are going to spread the message in every educational institution, residential societies etc of Kothrud & Bavdhan that, instead of throwing e-waste in common dustbins, the PMC Ward Office must be contacted for appropriate disposal of e-waste. This step is being taken to make Pune the No 1 city under Swachh Survekshan started by the Government of India.”

Sonawane further informed that in today’s (10th December) awareness campaign, around 250 to 300 students along with teachers & staff of Ryan International Academy had spontaneously participated for awareness and collection campaign about plastic and e-waste. The main aim of conducting this campaign in a school is to make the next generation aware about e-waste, waste segregation and more.

During today’s campaign, a lot of e-waste was collected.

The campaign was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner, PMC Solid Waste Management Sandip Kadam, Deputy Commissioner, PMC Circle No 2 Santosh Warule, Assistant Municipal Commissioner, PMC Kothrud-Bavdhan Ward Office Kedar Vaze and was implemented under the leadership of PMC Senior Health Inspector, PMC Kothrud-Bavdhan Ward Office Ram Sonwane, Health Inspector Hanumant Chakankar & other officials.

Ram Sonawane has further said that this campaign is going to be conducted on every Sunday henceforth at various educational institutions, residential societies & more.
