4 military academy students drown in Devgad beach; 1 stable; 1 missing

A total of 6 students from Sankalp Sainik Academy in Pimpri Chinchwad, who went for a trip in Devgad, drowned in Devgad Sea on 9th December (Saturday) afternoon. 4 of them died. One’s condition is stable. One person is still missing. All of them are trainees aged around 19 to 22 years.

Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar expressed his grief on X “It is an unfortunate incident that the trainees of Sankalp Sainik Academy in Pune, who went for tourism to Devgad in Sindhudurg district, drowned in the sea. Sindhudurg District Collector has been informed about this incident and other trainees have been instructed to reach their homes safely. It is an earnest appeal that all those who go for tourism in the coastal areas and mountain valleys should take necessary precautions.”

Some trainees came to the Devgad Beach. They were tempted to enjoy by going for a swim in the sea. Hence, some trainees got into the water. But, as they were not able to identify the situation of the water in the sea, they began to sink. As they were drowning, their colleagues started shouting. At this time, local people rushed for help.

Lifeguards reached the spot. They got into the water and tried to save the four drowned trainees. But their efforts failed as the doctors of the Devgad Rural Hospital declared them dead on arrival.

One trainee is stable & was rescued alive. Another is still missing for whom search operations are going on.
