Pune: The birth and death registration office of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) reportedly fell victim to a cyber attack, wherein an unidentified individual gained access to the portal and changed the name on a child’s birth certificate without the consent of the parents. As a result, the child’s father complained, leading to the registration of an FIR at the Faraskhana police station on Thursday.

As per the information provided, an individual whose identity remains unknown is said to have unlawfully utilized the ‘login and password’. Subsequently, the accused allegedly changed the name on a child’s birth certificate. The father of the child became aware of this illicit name modification, which was done without his consent.

As per the information, the child’s father complained to both the Pune Municipal Commissioner and the cyber police station of the Pune city police. The complaint was submitted on January 30, 2023. Following a thorough investigation, the birth certificate was updated with the correct name of the child.

Police confirmed that an FIR has been registered and the investigation is ongoing. The unidentified accused has been charged by the police under section 468 of the Indian Penal Code for cheating, as well as under relevant sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act. Additionally, an internal inquiry into the matter has been launched by PMC.
