PMC Proposes ₹200 Crore Chandani Chowk–Bhugaon Road Widening To Ease West Pune Traffic
Pune, March 31, 2026: In a major infrastructure initiative, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has proposed a ₹200 crore project to widen the Chandani Chowk–Bhugaon road, aiming to decongest traffic and improve connectivity in western parts of the city.
The information was shared by Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge on his X platform. The project focuses on expanding the existing narrow stretches of the road, currently around 10 metres wide, to up to 60 metres. Officials said the move is expected to significantly ease traffic flow on one of the busiest corridors in West Pune.
The Chandani Chowk–Bhugaon stretch serves as a key entry route for commuters travelling from Bhugaon, Mulshi, Pirangut and the Konkan region. It is also a crucial link connecting Pune city to important locations such as Pirangut, Roha, Bhagadi and Mangaon.
At present, the route faces severe congestion, particularly for commuters heading towards Kothrud and central Pune. The road also acts as an alternative access route to Hinjawadi IT Park, further adding to traffic pressure.
With several international educational institutions already operating in the vicinity and more planned in the future, traffic volume on this stretch is expected to rise further.
Civic officials believe the proposed road widening will not only reduce congestion but also strengthen regional connectivity and support long-term urban growth in West Pune.
