Every year PMC surveys old structures before the monsoon season arrives.

PMC has divided the wadas into three categories C1, C2 and C3. The structures that need to be razed fall in the C1 category while C2 structures are those that need repairs and those that need minor works are categorised as C3 structures.

According to the civic officials, PMC has started razing old, dilapidated and unoccupied wadas after serving notices to its owners.

“Any untoward incident can happen if prompt action is not taken. We have  razed 28 dilapidated wadas which were dangerous. We are keeping a watch on owners and occupants of wadas whom we have informed about the demolition,” said Sudhir Kadam, acting superintendent engineer (building department) PMC.

In the ongoing monsoon season, the city already witnessed the collapse of smaller portion of the two wadas. There was no human casualty in the incident.

On Saturday, a portion of the Karande Wada on Nehru Chowk in Shukrawar Peth collapsed around 7.20 am as six people were rescued by the fire brigade team. In May. a portion of Nulkar Wada in Sadashiv Peth collapsed with no casualty
