The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to demolish an illegal structure situated within the restricted zone of the Air Force station in Lohegaon. The action comes after the Air Force authorities lodged a complaint with the civic body regarding the unauthorized construction, citing potential security threats.

The unapproved RCC structure, measuring 20m x 10m, was erected on a 200 sqm plot of land within the restricted zone, located approximately 900m from the weapon storage area (bomb dump) of the Air Force station.

On July 4, the officer in charge of the land management cell at the Indian Air Force station (AFS) in Pune sent a letter to the PMC, urging them to demolish the structure. The letter highlighted that the construction violated the public notice issued by the district collector on April 9, 2008, which prohibited the building of houses, structures, and planting of trees within the restricted zone of 100/900m from the outer parapet of the AFS Pune boundary wall.

In response, the PMC issued a warning to the public, advising against purchasing plots within the restricted zone of the Air Force Station. Despite these warnings, individuals continue to be enticed by misleading promises from real estate agents. The civic officials have identified multiple land pockets under 17 different survey numbers near the Lohegaon bomb dump and caution people against acquiring plots in these areas.

The demolition serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to regulations and maintaining the safety and security of restricted areas surrounding vital establishments like Air Force stations.
