PMC To Install Huge Lord Ram Statue in Handewadi 

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to install a statue of Lord Ram in Shri Ram Chowk on Handewadi Road in Mohammadwadi-Kausarbaug Prabhag.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Yogita Bhosale, Municipal Secretary, PMC, said “The decision of the installation of Lord Ram statue was taken in the general body meeting of the PMC about a week ago. The construction of this statue will begin soon as the dates for the further procedures are yet to be finalized.”

As per further information, Pune Municipal Corporation takes decisions on beautification along with erecting sculptures and statues. In 2018, a proposal was sent that a statue of Lord Sri Rama should be erected in Shriram Chowk on Handewadi road in Mohammadwadi-Kausarbaug and the cost should be approved.

The proposal was approved by the General Assembly in August 2019 after it was approved by the Standing Committee. But since the statue will be erected in a public place, it is necessary to get the approval of the Urban Development Department of the government. Therefore, this proposal was sent to the state government.

This proposal was pending with the government for the last four years. This decision was not taken during the Maha Vikas Aghadi government. But there was a political upheaval in the state and Eknath Shinde became the Chief Minister.

Therefore, they followed up and obtained approval from the Urban Development Department, Home Department and the Office of the Director General of Police. After that this proposal has been sent to the Municipal Corporation. 

Accordingly, this proposal was approved by Administrator Vikram Kumar in the general meeting of the Municipal Corporation.
