Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited is training its drivers to operate e-buses. As per information, the training comes in response to a strike called by contract drivers employed by a private bus contractor in August 2023.

In response, Sachindra Pratap Singh, the Chairman and Managing Director decided to provide training to drivers from the transport corporation to operate e-buses. 

A total of 484 drivers from PMPML have undergone training to drive e-buses, including 272 permanent drivers and 212 temporary daily shift drivers. It is worthy to note that, PMPML currently possesses a fleet of 2089 buses, with 991 buses owned by PMPML and 1098 buses owned by private contractors. Among the contractor-owned buses, 640 are CNG buses and 458 are e-buses. 

In August, a strike by e-bus drivers occurred due to their demands, resulting in partial disruption of PMPML services. In light of this situation, Singh decided to train drivers to operate e-buses. The training which commenced on 26/08/2023, has successfully trained a total of 484 drivers. In addition, the drivers employed by the transport corporation, who operate the buses owned by PMPML, have also demonstrated commendable performance in terms of bus operation, providing accident and breakdown-free service, offering courteous treatment to passengers, and adhering to the regulations set by the Regional Transport Office (RTO).

Furthermore, training sessions have been conducted on various subjects starting from July 28, 2023, until October 15, 2023, during which a total of 978 drivers from the transport corporation have received training.
