Pune : The Pune Metro plans to become autonomous and operate without a driver. According to sources, the Metro will transition to ‘auto mode’ once commuters become familiar with it.

The concept of ‘auto mode’ is now widely recognised. Similarly, the Pune Metro will incorporate advanced technology to run autonomously. The sections between Vanaz and Ramwadi, as well as Pimpri-Chinchwad and Swargate, are in plans to be operated without a driver.

As per the information received, this control room will be equipped with numerous CCTV cameras installed both inside the metro trains and at the metro stations, enabling centralized control. Therefore, the presence of a driver will not be necessary. Furthermore, the metro stations and trains will be equipped with cameras to monitor the actions of any individuals who engage in misconduct or harassment towards women or girls during their metro journey.

As soon as the metro control room receives such information, it will be promptly relayed to the police station along the metro line. Consequently, the police will be able to reach the metro station expeditiously. The culprits will be apprehended and taken into custody immediately.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Hemant Sonawane, Pune Metro’s PRO added, ”The autonomous operation of the metro system, although currently in its nascent phase, is underway.”
