Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited is planning to reintroduce the intelligent traffic management system.

The system is linked to the central office and the upcoming bus stop will be displayed on the display board in the bus. The ‘intelligent traffic management system’ (ITMS), which has been inoperative for the past 2 to 3 years has now been re-launched and the on-board unit (OBU) has been installed in nearly 1000 PMPML buses.

This system will soon be installed in the rest of the buses. The advantages of this system is that passengers will know the live location of the bus due to ITMS and in turn the system will also know the number of passengers, the route to be taken and other related information.

“On Board Unit (OBU) will now make it convenient for the passengers to track buses. This system is being installed in buses in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, while electric buses are currently not included in this. We plan to include that too,” said Omprakash Bokaria, Chairman and Managing Director, PMPML Pune.

The system will be tested in buses running on the BRT route, first, said officials.
