PMPML Serves Legal Notice to Instagram Influencer Atharva Sudame Over Reel Shot Inside City Bus
The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has taken a firm stand against unauthorised social media content created within its buses by issuing a legal notice to Pune-based Instagram influencer Atharva Sudame. The action follows the circulation of an Instagram reel allegedly recorded inside a PMPML bus without official permission, prompting concerns over policy violations and the portrayal of public transport staff.
As per the notice dated January 2, PMPML stated that the influencer filmed and uploaded the reel without securing mandatory approval from the transport authority. The corporation has alleged that the video involved the unauthorised use of PMPML’s official assets, including the bus premises, the uniform worn by staff, the e-ticketing machine, and an official badge, all of which are considered protected property of the organisation.
The transport body further objected to the content of the reel, claiming that it presents women conductors in an objectionable and derogatory manner. PMPML has described this portrayal as an insult to the dignity, professionalism, and public image of its women employees, who work in demanding, public-facing roles on a daily basis.
According to PMPML officials, such content can have serious consequences beyond social media engagement. They emphasised that reels of this nature can negatively impact the respect, reputation, mental well-being, and overall standing of women employees, while also sending a misleading message to the public.
The notice also highlights that the viral reel has allegedly harmed the public image and credibility of PMPML as an essential public service provider. The administration noted that the act goes against the corporation’s internal rules, established policies, and ethical standards, and could potentially erode public trust in the organisation’s operations.
In its directive, PMPML has ordered Atharva Sudame to immediately delete the concerned reel from Instagram. He has also been warned not to post any photographs, videos, reels, or other social media content related to PMPML buses, staff, or operations in the future without prior written permission from the competent authority.
Additionally, the influencer has been instructed to appear at the PMPML headquarters located on Shankarsheth Road in Swargate within seven days of receiving the notice. He is required to submit a written explanation regarding the incident. The transport body has clearly stated that failure to comply with these directions, or to provide a satisfactory response, will lead to further legal action under applicable laws.
