Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has decided to take action against private contractors who called for a strike on March 6, demanding pending payments from the PMPML. As a consequence of the strike, which caused inconvenience to passengers, PMPML has decided to seize one day’s earnings from the contractors and recover a fine of ₹2,31,76,842.

The strike, which had a significant impact on public transportation in Pune, resulted in over 1,664 buses owned by the contractors coming to a halt. Passengers faced difficulties in commuting to their destinations, and the PMPML faced criticism for the disruption of services.

The private contractors who are facing action from PMPML include Travel Time Mobility India Pvt. Ltd., Antony Garages Pvt. Ltd., Hansa Vehicle India Ltd., OLECTRA GREENTECH LTD., Oha Commute Pvt. Ltd., and EV Trans Pvt. Ltd. The fines charged vary depending on the number of buses halted during the strike.

Mr. Omprakash Bakoria, head of PMPML, stated, “PMPML administration will be taking action against the contractors who called for the strike, which caused inconvenience to the passengers. As a penalty, PMPML will be seizing one day’s earnings from these contractors.”

The PMPML has already paid the pending amounts to the contractors, but has decided to impose fines to hold them accountable for the disruption caused by the strike. The decision to seize one day’s earnings and recover a fine of ₹2,31,76,842 from the contractors has been met with mixed reactions. While some support the PMPML’s action as a deterrent against future strikes, others express concerns about the impact on the contractors and their employees.

The PMPML has urged the private contractors to ensure smooth operations of their buses and refrain from calling for strikes that disrupt public transportation. The contractors, on the other hand, have stated that the strike was their last resort after repeated attempts to resolve the pending payment issue with PMPML failed.
