PMRDA contracts third Pune Metro Line construction to Tata Group

The third metro line project is being carried out under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with the Tata Group acting as the concessionaire. Technically speaking, a concessionaire refers to a grant to use property, business space, or trading rights. The Tata Group is tasked with designing, financing, building, and then transferring under this. The proposal by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to give the Tata Group 9.7 hectares of land for commercial development under the PPP framework is noteworthy.

As the concessionaire, Tata Group (TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited) will have rights to the grants and benefits provided by the PMRDA for 35 years, with the possibility of an extension granted by the government.

The first double-decker flyover in Pune, which is essential for the construction of the third Metro line that links Hinjawadi and Shivaji Nagar, is expected to be finished by August 15, 2024, as assured by Rahul Mahiwal, Commissioner of the PMRDA.

The estimated cost of this massive project is Rs 265 crore, according to sources. The flyover, which is envisioned as a two-story integrated structure, will have ramps underneath and a metro rail above, allowing three roads to converge on Ganeshkhind. Pune Municipal Corporation has the task of building the four underpasses beneath the flyover.

This high-level double-decker flyover begins at the intersection of the Shivaji Nagar-Hinjawadi Metro line pillars on Savitribai Phule Pune University Road, which runs from Pune University Road into Aundh, Pashan, and Baner. With a 23-meter width and 1.7-kilometer length, this flyover is expected to alleviate the current issues that commuters on this route encounter. Rahul Mahiwal recognized the difficulties that commuters faced while utilizing this route, emphasizing the need to reduce traffic, improve travel times, and offer relief to commuters.
