Pune: The 16th Civil Transport Council was organized by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Development at New Delhi which was held from October 27 to 29, 2023. 

Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) participated in the said conference as the lead sponsor.

Deepak Singla, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner, PMRDA, said, “Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority has taken the initiative to solve the problems related to traffic in and around Pune. Projects like metro, ring road, and integrated double-decker flyover have been taken up and special planning has been done for transportation in the development plan of the region. Participating in the said 16th Civil Transport Council as a main sponsor will help to bring the work of the authority to the country level.”

Rinaj Pathan, Chief Engineer, PMRDA said, “Pune Metro Line 3 is the first public-private partnership project under the Central Government’s new Metro Rail Policy, 2017. It is the first project in the country to acquire 97% land before starting the project. The work of the project is 45% completed and it is expected that the said metro will be available to the citizens of Pune by March 2025.”

As per further information shared by Ramdas Jagtap, Deputy Collector & PRO, PMRDA, through Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority, the 23.203 km long Pune Metro Line – 3 Maan-Hinjewadi-Shivaji Nagar Metro Project, for an estimated cost of Rs 8313 crore, has been approved by the State Government vide Government Decision dated February 9 2018 to implement the project based on Public Private Partnership (PPP) and the implementation of the project is Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd.

The concession agreement of the project was signed on 21/09/2019 and the appointed date of the project was announced on 25/11/2021. 45% work of the project has been completed to date. Due to this project, the working employees of Hinjewadi IT Park will get great relief for commuting.

Also, to properly plan the traffic coming to Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad cities through the authority, 65 m wide ring road work has been taken up and land acquisition is in progress. The authority released the Comprehensive Mobility Plan for Pune City, Pimpri Chinchwad City, and adjoining rural areas in 2018, which includes various measures to solve the traffic problems in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and adjoining areas.

Also, in PMPML, through the authority, approximately Rs 180 crores will be invested. The construction of an integrated double-decker flyover is in progress at Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk for smooth planning of urban transport by the authority.

Vehicular traffic will run on the first level of the said double-decker flyover and the metro corridor will run on the second level. Due to this, the problem of traffic jams in University Chowk will be solved.

In order to take notice of the work being done in the urban transport sector of the authority at the central level, the authority has participated as the main sponsor in the said conference and detailed information about the metro project of the authority has been elaborated in the conference held in Delhi.
