Police rescue new-born from toilet

An unknown woman gave birth to a child in a public toilet at Tukainagar, Wadgoan Budruk area on Wednesday and tried to dump it in toilet. Thankfully, the police rescued the child and rushed to hospital.

Police are inspecting the CCTV footage for clues to identify the mother, following which a case will be registered. The police suspect the incident to be a case of illicit relationship.



According to police, around 8.20 am Ajay Mali and Katte, police officers of Sinhagad Road police station received a call in the regard. They rushed to the spot and rescued the infant with the help of residents.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Mali said, “It seems that the woman has given birth to a newborn baby in Tukai Nagar Wadgaon behind the Public Women’s Toilet Samaj Mandir, as the place had blood traces. The call came around 8.20am in the morning. Meanwhile, my colleague Katte and I, rushed to the spot after receiving information about the call. As we inspected, we found the newborn baby crying and stuck in the Indian toilet. We try to pull the child but it was crying. We had to arrange oil and we then pulled the child out with the help of civilians. The child was bleeding .and we rushed the child to the Sassoon General hospital.”

Senior police inspector of Sinhagad Road Police Station Shailesh Sankhe mentioned that, “we suspect the child might have been born out of illicit relationship and we are inspecting the cameras to get some clues. The baby was a boy. “

Inspector of Police Pramod Waghmare visited the spot and congratulated Mali and Katte for the efforts.
