Potholed Roads In Pune, President Murmu Writes To Police
President Draupadi Murmu’s recent visit to Pune has exposed the city’s long-standing struggle with potholed roads. During her two-day tour, the presidential convoy encountered rough roads, prompting President Murmu to express frustration in a letter to the Pune Police.
The city’s roads, particularly Ganesh Khind Road, have been plagued by potholes and traffic congestion due to ongoing metro and flyover construction from Shivajinagar to Hinjawadi. Despite efforts to address the issue, including a joint meeting between the Pune Municipal Corporation, PMRDA, and Traffic Police, the road conditions remain unchanged.
Statistics reveal the severity of the problem. Since August 26, 432 pits have been filled, 1334 MT of asphalt used, 1981 sq. mt of area repaired, and 36 chamber repairs conducted. However, the situation has become life-threatening, with daily accidents occurring across the city.
Citizens are questioning the municipality’s inaction, wondering if they’re waiting for more lives to be lost. “Pune’s pothole problem is a ticking time bomb,” said a local resident. “We need urgent action, not temporary fixes.”
With Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming visit, the Pune Police has urged the Municipal Corporation to fill the potholes. However, residents demand a permanent solution to the city’s infrastructure woes. The Pune Municipal Corporation has faced criticism for its handling of the issue.
Citizens and experts alike are calling for a comprehensive plan to address the city’s crumbling infrastructure. As Pune prepares for the Prime Minister’s visit, the spotlight remains on its potholed roads. Will the city finally find a lasting solution to its infrastructure struggles? Only time will tell.
