Pune: Citizens from various areas of Pune are complaining about the power cuts. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) employees, officers and engineers have called for a 72 hour strike against the proposal of Adani Company for parallel supply of power in parts of Mumbai.

However, the strike of MSEDCL employees is affecting the citizens. Though MSEDCL informed yesterday that the power supply won’t affect the supply, several parts of Pune is experiencing power cuts since early morning. The residents of Bavdhan and Pimple Saudagar, Sinhagad road have been facing the power cut since morning. And they are trying to reach the toll free number provided by MSEDCL for citizens to complain about the power cut, these numbers are continuously busy.

Manish Deo, member of the Bavdhan citizen forum said, “I was waiting for 45 minutes at the toll free number to register the complaint of power cut in parts of Bavdhan. As the power cut is observed at many places from 5:30 am only. Even after getting connected to the helpline number, they took the consumer number and said that this would be solved. But they gave no specific time by when the problem will be solved.”

Another resident from Kokane Chowk complained, “I read in newspapers that there will be no power cut even if MSEDCL employees go on strike. But the reality is we have been facing a power cut since 11 am. None of us were prepared for this.”

“We apologize for the inconvenience caused to the citizens due to our strike. But we will not be working today to get the problem solved. The strike will continue until our demands are accepted,” said Rafik Shaikh, MSEDCL employee who is also part of the strike.
