Following the announcement of the results of the gram panchayat elections yesterday, the ruling parties are asserting their position as the frontrunners in the state.

Prashant Jagtap, the Pune city president, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) has urged them to hold local body elections within the next two months to test the veracity of their claim and to see if the ruling party truly has the courage to face the people. However, it should be noted that gram panchayat elections are not fought on party symbols, rendering the parties’ claims baseless. Furthermore, during local body elections, the ruling party often fails to respond to opposition petitions, leaving the people without proper representation.

Jagtap stated that the government is denying the people the representation they deserve, while simultaneously claiming that the people’s vote is in their favour. To prove the validity of their claim, Jagtap suggested that the government should promptly conduct local body elections.
