Unauthorized road digging has become a matter of concern In Pimpri-Chinchwad. This has promoted the local authorities to take strict measures against the same.
The Pimpri Chinchwad Traffic Department has issued a warning to contractors operating in areas like Chakan, Bhosari, Talegaon, Hinjewadi, and others. They must obtain proper permission before initiating any road excavation work. Failure to do so will result in direct charges being pressed against them.
Under sections 283 and 188 of the Indian Penal Code, unauthorized road digging that obstructs traffic without prior permission from the traffic department is deemed an offence. Authorities are actively monitoring and penalizing offenders to uphold public safety and ensure smooth traffic flow.
The jurisdiction of the Pimpri Chinchwad Commissionerate covers significant industrial and IT park zones, as well as pilgrimage sites like Dehu and Alandi. These areas witness frequent visits from important individuals and foreign dignitaries.
To ensure their safety and prevent disruptions to traffic flow, contractors are required to obtain a no-objection certificate from the Pimpri Chinchwad Traffic Branch before commencing any digging activity.
The Transport Department has identified instances of contractors operating without the necessary authorization. Such unauthorized excavation poses risks, particularly along routes used by VIPs.
In response, the authorities have instructed strict actions against these violators.
A recent case involved May Liparu Infra Ltd. found conducting road digging from Mukai Chowk to Kiwale village without a valid license. Consequently, a case has been registered against Farooq Khan, an officer of the company residing in Sainath Nagar, Nigdi.
