The transfer of Additional Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Vikas Dhakne has surprised Punekars as Vikas Dhakne is known for his impactful & efficient works towards road & infrastructure development of Pune.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Vikas Dhakne stated “My transfer has been announced. The exact details of the new posting would be announced shortly.”

People from various walks of life like citizen activist, media persons, political party spokesperson etc have expressed shock & disappointment over Vikas Dhakne’s transfer.

Qaneez Sukhrani, Pune citizen activist, demanding that Vikas Dhakne must be re-instated, says “It is shocking and unexpected that the State Govt has resorted to the sudden transfer of Vikas Dhakne, IAS, Additional Commissioner Pune, an efficient officer, without any valid reason. During his tenure, he has been the driving force to make the Corporation vibrant, by initiating several development projects to re-define the city’s landscape. He has been always available to listen to the citizens grievancesand resolve their issuea. His method of working and decisions have been positive and balanced as he always looked at the issue in a 360 degree manner. He has been always on the move and present at project sites.”

Qaneez Sukhrani further says “The State Govt has not followed the Maharashtra Government Servant Regulation of Transfers & Prevention of Delay in Discharge of Official Duties Act which states quite clearly that any officer’s tenure must be 3 years. Unless proven guilty of misconduct. Vikas Dhakne has not completed 3 years in his present posting in Pune Municipal Corporation and hence in both cases, his transfer is not acceptable. Further, the state cannot cite a single instance of deviation and misconduct in his position as Additional Commissioner PMC for such a retrograde decision to be taken.”

Qaneez Sukrani further says “Although he has been transferred on paper, he has not been allotted a new posting and no officer has been given his position as Additional Commissioner in PMC. Hence, kindly hold this decision in abeyance to reverse/retract it until after the Model Code of Code for Lok Sabha elections are over. Thereafter, the State Govt must re-instate him with the position as Additional Commissioner in Pune again.”

Raju Hinge, a senior journalist & media person, has expressed through social media “I have been working as a journalist in Pune Municipal Corporation for many years. But it never felt bad that the officers were transferred. But the unexpected transfer of Additional Commissioner Vikas Dhakane felt bad. Dhakane Sir, after taking charge of the post of Additional Commissioner, made good efforts to improve roads. It was through his efforts that the land acquisition problem of Katraj-Kondhwa Road was resolved to a large extent. He insisted that provision should be made in the municipal budget for this road and that funds should be obtained from the state government, and he was successful. That is why the work of Katraj-Kondhwa Road is in progress. He removed the encroachments on the old Pune Mumbai highway. He removed the encroachments in many squares including Mundhwa. Dhakane sir was always taking correct decisions after direct inspection. After many years, the city had an efficient Additional Commissioner. Unfortunately, an efficient officer has been unexpectedly transferred. It will definitely affect the development of the city.”

Ali Daruwala, Spokesperson, Bharatiya Janata Party, said through social media “Dhakaneji’s transfer will slow the infrastructure growth rate in Pune.”
