Pune – A 22-year-old UPSC aspirant was robbed of a gold chain and three rings worth Rs 50,000 on the evening of May 21 while on Hanuman Tekdi behind Fergusson College. The student reported the crime to the Deccan Gymkhana police the next day, leading to an ongoing investigation.

The incident occurred around 8 PM when the student and her male friend, also a UPSC aspirant, were taking a walk on the hillock after visiting the temple. They sat on a bench and noticed two men visiting the temple. After 10-15 minutes, the men approached them and asked where they stayed. The students replied that they were staying at a hostel on Senapati Bapat Road.

A Senior Inspector provided details of the robbery: “One of the men snatched the victim’s gold chain and forcibly removed her three finger rings, despite her resistance. The other man threatened the male friend with a knife, placing it on his stomach and warning him not to raise an alarm.”

Fearing further danger, the students fled the scene and later reported the incident. “The robbers fled towards the Chatuhshrungi temple. The victim, after consulting her lawyer-father in Nagpur, reported the incident to the police the next day.”

The lack of CCTV cameras on the hillock has complicated the investigation, but footage from cameras at the footsteps of the hillock near Chatuhshrungi temple captured images of the suspects. “We are analyzing the footage to establish their identity. We suspect they could be from the Pandavnagar slums behind the hillock,” police stated.

The police are following clues based on the description provided by the victim. “We conduct patrolling thrice a day on the Tekdi, but on the day of the incident, our staffers were deployed on bandobast duty.”

The investigation is ongoing as the police work to identify and apprehend the suspects responsible for the robbery.
