Pune : 34 Lakh Consumers To Receive Rs 80 Crore Refund From MSEDCL

Pune, June 15, 2023 : Mahavitaran (Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited) has refunded a whopping amount of Rs 79 crores 96 lakhs 36 thousand which were collected as a security deposit to 34 lakhs 46 thousand 978 low voltage and high voltage electricity consumers in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad cities and Ambegaon, Junnar, Khed, Maval, Mulshi, Velhe and Haveli talukas under the Pune circle. The amount has been adjusted in the electricity bills of the concerned consumers. 

As per information, a security deposit is levied from electricity consumers as per clause 13.1 of Electricity Supply Code 2021 of Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission. Every year, the security deposit is recalculated and accordingly, after the end of the financial year, the new security deposit amount is determined based on the average electricity consumption of the customer in the previous year. The security deposit of electricity consumers is twice the average monthly bill in the case of a monthly bill and one and half times of the average quarterly bill in the case of a quarterly bill. 

Similarly, as per Exchange 13.11, the interest amount on the security deposit paid by the customer at the rate equivalent to the Reserve Bank of India rate is adjusted through the electricity bill and paid to the electricity consumer. Accordingly, in the year 2022-23, 34 lakhs 46 thousand 978 low and high-pressure electricity consumers in Pune circle have been given a refund of Rs 79 crore 96 lakh 36 thousand. As electricity consumers with agricultural pumps are given quarterly electricity bills, the refund amount will be adjusted in their electricity bills for the coming month of June.

34 lakh 41 thousand 575 consumers of low-pressure household, commercial, industrial and other electricity consumers have been given a refund of 39 crores 20 lakh rupees. In this, 17 lakh 84 thousand 36 consumers of Pune city will get 21 crores 60 lakh 90 thousand rupees, 7 lakh 88 thousand 910 electricity consumers of Pimpri and Chinchwad will get 9 crores 22 lakhs 87 thousand and 8 lakhs from Ambegaon, Junnar, Khed, Maval, Mulshi, Velhe and Haveli talukas. 68 thousand 629 customers have been given a refund of Rs 8 crore 36 lakh 22 thousand. Also, a refund of Rs. 40 crores 76 lakh 35 thousand rupees has been adjusted in the electricity bills of 5 thousand 403 electricity consumers in the high-pressure category in Pune circle on the security deposit.

Electricity consumers in Pune Circle have been issued a separate bill to pay the additional security deposit difference along with their electricity bills for the month of April/May. A maximum of six equal monthly installments have been provided by Maha Vitaran to pay this amount.

The facility is available for low-pressure electricity consumers to pay the additional security deposit amount at home through the website www.mahadiscom.in and the Maha Vitaran mobile app. Maha Vitaran has appealed to electricity consumers to cooperate by paying the additional security deposit bill amount.
