In a recent ruling by the Pune Additional District Consumer Commission, a tour company has been directed to refund Rs 2.84 lakh to a disgruntled customer, along with interest accrued since the year 2019.

The commission took action after the company failed to honor its commitment to reimburse the remaining ticket amount following the cancellation of the flight.

The complainant, who had valid reasons for canceling the ticket, received an assurance from the company via email on April 16, 2019, promising a prompt refund of Rs 2.84 lakh within 12 hours of the cancellation. However, the company failed to uphold its promise, leaving the complainant without the reimbursed amount.

Despite multiple requests for compensation, the company continuously provided false assurances, prompting the complainant to file an official complaint when the company did not respond to the notice.

Upon receiving the notice, the company, represented by counsel, appeared before the commission. Despite being given an opportunity to address the issue, the company did not submit a written reply. The commission, considering the affidavit, written arguments, and statements from both parties, ordered the company to pay Rs 2.84 lakh as compensation to the complainant.

Additionally, the order stipulates a compensation amount of Rs 30,000 and Rs 5,000 for the cost of the complaint. The ruling serves as a reminder of the legal repercussions for companies failing to fulfill their obligations to customers.
