Pune: Aditya Thackeray Questions Government Over Lokmanya Nagar Redevelopment Stay

Pune, October 30, 2025: Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Aditya Thackeray has launched a sharp attack on the state government, alleging that it has turned into a “builder-contractor government” instead of serving the people. His remarks came in response to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) reportedly halting the redevelopment project of Pune’s Lokmanya Nagar.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Thackeray questioned the state’s decision, stating, “Residents of Lokmanya Nagar themselves decided on redevelopment and wanted the project to move forward. Yet, based on a letter from the local MLA, the CMO suddenly issued a stay order. What is the reason behind such an abrupt decision?”

He further alleged that the suspension could be linked to vested interests. “Is this land being diverted to a builder close to the ruling party under the guise of cluster development? If the Chief Minister is making such decisions without considering citizens’ opinions, then whose government is this — the people’s or the builders’?” he asked.

Thackeray also criticized the government over frequent road digging in Pune. “Most city roads are set to be dug up again for optic fibre cable installation. Will the municipal compensation fees be waived just because the contractor is close to the government?” he added.

In his post, Thackeray emphasized that the current administration, which he claimed came to power “by the grace of the Election Commission,” has prioritized developers over citizens, raising concerns about transparency and accountability in urban redevelopment projects.
